RESOURCES FOR CAREGIVERS
Whether your loved one technically has Alzheimer’s or another form of dementia the organizations below have lots of information and can also help you find Caregiver Help Groups near you:
Alzheimer’s Association
Helpline: 800.272.3900 (available 24/7)
They educate, provide resources and support for the patient and the caregiver. They can also help you locate your local Alzheimer’s Association chapter and state resources.
Alzheimer’s New Jersey
Helpline: 888-280-6055
Whether you live in New Jersey or not, you may find this group’s free downloadable seminars, pamphlets, and guides extremely helpful (click around the website you will discover they are a wealth of knowledge). If you live in NJ they have online and in person education sessions such as, Managing Behavior Changes in Alzheimer’s Disease, Coping with Caregiver Stress, and Understanding Memory Loss. They can also connect you with a Caregiver Support Group (Zoom or in-person), which I have found particularly invaluable.
Provides support, resources, and counseling services to individuals caring for loved ones with dementia and other chronic health conditions.
Jewish Family Services
- available all over the country.
Search for “my local Jewish Family Services” (you do not have to be any particular religion to take part in most of their programs). I found that their Adult Day Care Program in my area was beneficial in providing a structured day for my mom and allowing me some time to rest and recharge to become a better caregiver. This is an International Group so look up your local chapter. Here are some in the NY/NJ area:
Jewish Family Services of Metrowest
Jewish Family Services of Clifton, NJ
Jewish Family Services of Central Jersey
Jewish Family Services of Northeastern New York
